Prof. Gillian Tozer Professor of Tumour Biology, Head of Cancer Research UK Tumour Microcirculation Group |
The University of Sheffield is one of the UK's leading Universities, with an international reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. The Tumour Microcirculation Group (TMG) is based at the Academic Unit of Surgical Oncology within the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. The TMG has a strong long-standing research record in investigating the morphological and functional characteristics of the microvascular networks of tumours and responses to vascular-targeted therapies with small molecular weight drugs and radiation.
The TMG is also highly experienced in endothelial cell biology. A large part of its research focuses on the analysis of the cell cytoskeleton and signaling pathways, which relate to the functional endothelial remodelling associated with responses to therapy as well as angiogenesis. The TMG and School of Medicine laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as live time-lapse, confocal and multiphoton microscopy, fluorescent activated cell sorting facilities, hypoxia stations and radiation sources. In addition, the University supports a strong post-graduate programme for the training of PhD students.
